Required Screening & Training

All head coaches and assistant coaches are required to complete a background check, SafeSport training, and concussion training before practices and games begin. These requirements must be completed each soccer year (runs August - July). All players 18 and older must also complete SafeSport training to be eligible to play. Reminder: Current risk management certificates must be dated ON OR AFTER July 1st of the current soccer year.

SafeSport Training
(required for coaches and for players 18 and older)

The purpose of the SafeSport Abuse Training is to educate in a 3-part series. Each training module lasts about 30 minutes and can be taken in segments. SafeSport training runs in a four year cycle. After completing the first year, the next three years will be a 30-minute review. The fifth year will restart the cycle with the full training program.

If you have any technical issues with the SafeSport certificate after you take the course you must go back to your dashboard and then click on the "download certificate" icon on the right of the screen. Instructions for players 18 and older:
When players turn 18, they become subject to adult SafeSport training requirements. To remain eligible to play, all players 18 years and older must complete theirSafeSport training. This abuse prevention education is offered online, free of charge, by the U.S. Center for SafeSport.

Before training, please update the Tennessee State Soccer Association player profile with the email address that will also be used to set up an account on SafeSport. A parent or guardian can do this by accessing the profile via their Tennessee State Soccer Association My Account page.

The link below must be used to enter the training portal. Additionally, when setting up the SafeSport profile, it is important that the first name, last name, and email match what is on file in Tennessee State Soccer Association. This will ensure that SafeSport course results are automatically inserted into the Tennessee State Soccer Association record.

NOTE: a SafeSport profile cannot be set up prior to turning 18.


Concussion Training

Step 1) Create an account within the CDC
Step 2) Location: Select OTHER
Step 3) Select: Confirm these selections (green box)
Step 4) Select: Continue (blue box)
Step 5) Region: Select your closest region or Central office
Step 6) Select: Confirm these selections (green box)
Step 7) Select: Finish Creating Account (blue box)
Click on the HEADS UP to Youth Sports: Online Training for Coaches in the bottom right
Step 8) Select: Pre-assessment (green box). This will prompt you to the link to complete your profile.
Step 9) Fill out: Sections with a red exclamation point on the left side of the screen to complete profile.
For the organization section fill out as following:
Org name: Williamson County Soccer Association
Department: Youth Soccer
Title: Coach
For Professional role select: Volunteer
For Work Settings select: Non-profit Organization
Step 10) Select: Save (green box in top right corner)
Step 11) Select: Cancel (yellow box left corner) AFTER your progress has been saved to exit back to learning portal screen.
Step 12) Select: Pre-assessment (green box). This will lead you to your first course titled: HEADS UP to Youth Sports: Coaches Pre-Test V3
Step 13) Select: Start (green box) and begin the training exercise. Once completed, please close the assessment window and click on the green ’Launch’ button. This will take you directly to the course work required.

After completing your training, please upload your certificate into your account. Do not email the WCSA office with your certificate.
